We have set up a FACEBOOK GROUP for the sole purpose of expressing your interest in running in the proposed Southend Marathon.

Runningman Events are currently in talks with Southend Council and Southend Police in regards to hosting the 2012 Southend Full Marathon, we have had positive meetings with the council so far and all going well it looks like Southend could be hosting a Marathon once again.

More information as it is received will be posted in the group and by joining the group you will be the first to hear of any breaking news.

What we need from you is an expression of interest to participate in the Southend Marathon which will be held on Sunday 29th April 2012.

So all those that have just had your rejection pack through from the London Marathon there is light at the end of the tunnel…..you can still train with your mates that did get into London and put all that great training to use when you run in the Southend marathon.

Be part of something unique, get involved and register your interest by posting your name in the group with a contact email, alternatively if you don’t wish to leave your email details in an open group you can send them on to a group admin.

Don’t forget to add all your friends whether there a runner or wish to support or become a marshal on the day.

Southend Classic Road race – 10,000 meters, accurately measured, starting at 10.30 a.m. open to all runners,

Races Feature Full medical backup by St. John Ambulance. Race clocks at finish and on lead car. Fast flat course along the Southend Sea Front. Traffic free course.

For Safety reasons PERSONAL STERIO’S/MP3 Players MUST NOT be used on the public roads by runners as whilst the road is hopefully traffic free this cannot be guaranteed as some motorist’s vehicles inevitably get trapped on the course.

We are greatful for the continued support of the Southend Borough Council and Southend Police for help in planning the race on Southend’s roads.

PLEASE NOTE – NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY and AFFILIATED ATHLETES MUST PROVIDE THEIR UKA REGISTRATION NUMBER TO QUALIFY FOR THE REDUCED ENTRY FEE.

Children’s Fun Run

Open to children ages 11 – 14 years on the day of race.

The course is approx 3,000 metres but cannot be accurately measured as it is subject to police restrictions concerning the “turn round” point on the road which may change due to local traffic conditions. However, the course will be traffic free.

The event will consist of a Run 6km/Bike 15km/Run 6km – final accurate distance are to follow.

Jog up the Himalayas anyone ?

We’re thinking of organising a Sunday morning jog up the Himalayas in a couple of weeks time and want to see who’s interested ? We’ll probably start at an unfeasibly early hour after a bowl of gruel and wear trainers a couple of sizes too small just make it a bit of a challenge.
